Michael is a member of the Institute of Directors in Ireland, the Insurance Institute of Ireland and a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants. Michael has over 30 years’ experience in the insurance industry in various leadership roles and has extensive Director experience at Board and Shareholder level with two of Ireland’s largest insurance companies over the past 20 years.
Enda is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, a Fellow of the Institute of Bankers, a member of the Institute of Directors in Ireland and a member of the Insurance Institute of Ireland with a Diploma in Information Systems awarded by Trinity College Dublin. He has held a number of Senior Executive and Board level positions over 15 years in leading financial services organisations.
Conor Mahon is Director of Operations at IPB Insurance. He is responsible for managing operations and ensuring that we have the right IT infrastructure and facilities to support the delivery of our services to our Members and customers. He is also responsible for Marketing & Communications and driving the development of IPB’s strategy to ensure continued, and long term, contribution of the Mutual to our Members and customers.
Prior to this, Conor was Head of Strategy and Planning in IPB Insurance. Before joining IPB Insurance Conor was a business consultant with Accenture for many years and has experience in defining and implementing initiatives to drive improved business outcomes for a range of organisations both in Ireland and internationally.
Conor holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from University College Dublin (UCD) and a Masters in Finance from the Michael Smurfit Graduate School of Business at UCD.
Emily Chambers is Director of Legal and Company Secretary at IPB Insurance. Emily is a Chartered Insurer with a Bachelor of Business Studies with French degree and a MBA and she has attained the designation of Licentiate of the Compliance Officers in Ireland following the securing of a Professional Diploma in Compliance.
As a practising Solicitor, she is responsible for providing professional and strategic advice to the Chief Executive, Board and Senior Management, managing the Company’s approach to protecting the interests of its policyholders in litigating proceedings to which they might be a party and managing relationships with external providers of legal services.
Emily’s responsibilities as Company Secretary of IPB Insurance include ensuring compliance by the Board with relevant legislative and regulatory requirements and advising the Board on corporate governance issues enabling the application of best practice in corporate governance and the effective implementation of the corporate governance framework identified in the Corporate Governance Requirements for Insurance Undertakings 2015.
Emily joined IPB Insurance from Ecclesiastical Insurance Group where she held the role of Head of Legal with responsibility for the Group’s Irish legal and commercial operations. Prior to this, Emily worked with Quinn Insurance and Ivor Fitzpatrick & Company Solicitors where she developed significant experience in commercial dispute resolution and insurance defence litigation.
Matt Rafferty is Director of Underwriting at IPB Insurance. He is responsible for all aspects of the Company’s underwriting process – risk selection, product pricing, policy wordings and underwriting authorities.
Matt has over 40 years’ experience in the Irish Market having previously held senior executive positions in AIG and most recently with QBE. In these roles, Matt’s responsibilities extended to the day-to-day administration and management of the business environment of a comprehensive array of product lines transacted by the business. Matt played a leading role in the tone and direction of creating business opportunities which were aligned to the objectives as outlined in the business (strategic) plans.
Pat McGinley is Director of Investments at IPB Insurance. He heads a team of three investment professionals who have a combined Stock market experience of over 68 years. Together with his team, Pat is responsible for all aspects of managing the investment assets of IPB which have grown from €77m in 1989 when he joined the company to over €1.2bn at year end 2016. All investment decisions are made in house and are governed by investment parameters, as set by the Board of Directors through the Approved Investment Policy and monitored by the Board. Fund performance is measured on a monthly basis but emphasis is placed on the long term sustainable return on assets.
Pat has been successfully delivering above average returns for the Company for over 28 years. Prior to joining IPB Insurance, Pat spent time as an accountant and a sovereign bond trader as well as spending three years as an economic and bond analyst with the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority in London.
Pat is a Fellow of the Institute of Public Accountants and a member of the Securities Institute. He also holds a Diploma in Corporate Governance from the Smurfit Business School, a Diploma in Modern Irish History and is the Chairperson of The Dublin Youth Theatre.
Conn is Head of Member and Client Relations and is responsible for broadening IPB’s base of loyal clients, developing the company’s service levels to meet the changing needs of our customers. He is the senior executive responsible for a range of business areas and their teams including New Business Development and Client Services.
Conn started his career in the insurance industry with a summer job in the post room of FBD. From there he was promoted to the underwriting department before moving on to work as a Business Development Executive at Allianz. Most recently he spent five years as the Sales and Marketing Manager for Ecclesiastical Insurance Group.
Michael Whelehan is the Head of Claims at IPB Insurance. He is responsible for all elements of the claims function from managing external service providers across disciplines such as legal, property and consultancy services to coordinating our large in-house team of experienced claims professionals who handle all claim types from motor, accidental damage, personal accident etc. to complex liability claims, in order to deliver an exceptional service to our stakeholders.
Prior to his appointment as Head of Claims in November 2014, Michael was Head of Claims Operations in FBD Insurance. Previous experience includes Head of Operations and COO within the Friends First and IFG Plc financial services groups respectively. Michael is a Business Graduate with subsequent qualifications in Financial Services, General Insurance and Claims.
Rosemary Ryan joined IPB Insurance in 2000 as Risk Manager following a career in the health service as Director of Nursing in St James’s Hospital, Dublin and Altnagelvin Hospitals H&SS Trust, Derry. She leads the client enterprise risk management services team, and has developed models of best practice for corporate and clinical governance to support the management of enterprise risk and safety, health and welfare risk in the health service and the local and education authorities. Rosemary also provides expert advice to clients on the management of complex risks where there is a risk of criminal prosecution.
She is a member of the HSE’s Risk Committee and represents the interests of our clients at various fora, such as the NSAI standards development committees and the Health and Safety Authority’s Work Related Vehicle Safety Consultative Committee and Focal Point Group. Rosemary is a Registered Risk Practitioner and was instrumental in IPB being recognised at the international European Risk Management Awards in 2012, where IPB received a ‘highly commended’ award and she led the submission to Chambers Ireland for the overall winner of the Local Authority award for a bespoke safety management system.
As the Head of Marketing and Communications for IPB Insurance, Tom leads the company’s marketing, research, advertising and communications. He led the recent rebranding of IPB Insurance and played a major role in the development of IPB’s new corporate identity and communications collateral. In leading the marketing and communications team, Tom’s focus is always on listening to the needs of all our stakeholders and responding to those needs as innovatively and creatively as possible.
Tom has been working in marketing, communications and corporate affairs since 1996. He has worked with leading financial services and corporate businesses in Ireland and internationally including companies such as KBC Bank, AIB Bank, IFG Group, DNG and Insomnia among many others. He was runner up for ‘Best Corporate Communications Campaign’ at the PRCA Excellence in Communications Awards in 2011.
Emma Bradley is Head of Actuarial Function at IPB Insurance. She is responsible for the delivery of all the regulatory requirements of the actuarial function, as well as any other actuarial support needed by the company. This covers determining the amount of reserves required to support insurance obligations, and advising on pricing and reinsurance strategy.
Previously Emma held roles in Ireland and the UK, in both actuarial consultancy and pricing. Emma’s experience includes providing SAO opinions, other reserving work, capital modelling, case pricing and portfolio management support.
Emma is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries in Ireland, and a Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries, and holds an MA in Mathematics from the University of Cambridge. Emma is a member of the Society of Actuaries General Insurance Committee.
Colm Bryson joined IPB in May 2012 as Head of Finance. Prior to joining IPB, Colm held positions as Finance Integration Manager at MetLife, Group Financial Controller at Postbank Ireland, AVP Finance at Merrill Lynch and Client Services Manager at AIB International Financial Services.
Colm is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (FCCA), holds a Management Diploma in Insurance from the Insurance Institute of Ireland, a Bachelor of Business & Legal Studies from UCD and a Professional Diploma in Strategy, Innovation and Change from UCD Michael Smurfit Business School. He is a member of the Finance, Risk and Audit Committee of the Children’s Rights Alliance and Assistant Honorary Treasurer of the Belvedere College Past Pupils Union.
Ger Mulvaney is Head of Risk at IPB Insurance. Ger has over 16 years’ experience in the Insurance Industry. Ger joined IPB Insurance in June 2014 as the Head of Regulatory Reporting and Assurance. Prior to joining IPB, Ger worked in the Central Bank of Ireland as an Insurance Supervision Manager overseeing the risk based supervision of a number of large international insurance companies. Ger also worked in PwC for a number of years where he qualified as a Chartered Accountant and gained significant experience in the audit of insurance and other financial services companies.
As Head of Risk, Ger’s primary responsibility is to the Board and Risk Committee and he has distinct and independent accountability for the risk management function. Risk management is concerned with the identification, measurement, management, reporting and monitoring of material current and future risks. Risk management seeks to protect the company’s operations by promoting a sound culture of risk awareness as well as disciplined and informed risk taking, protect the company’s strong capital base by monitoring that risks taken are not beyond the company’s risk appetite and support decision making processes by providing consistent, reliable and timely risk information.
