Rosemary Ryan joined IPB Insurance in 2000 as Risk Manager following a career in the health service as Director of Nursing in St James’s Hospital, Dublin and Altnagelvin Hospitals H&SS Trust, Derry. She leads the client enterprise risk management services team, and has developed models of best practice for corporate and clinical governance to support the management of enterprise risk and safety, health and welfare risk in the health service and the local and education authorities. Rosemary also provides expert advice to clients on the management of complex risks where there is a risk of criminal prosecution.
She is a member of the HSE’s Risk Committee and represents the interests of our clients at various fora, such as the NSAI standards development committees and the Health and Safety Authority’s Work Related Vehicle Safety Consultative Committee and Focal Point Group. Rosemary is a Registered Risk Practitioner and was instrumental in IPB being recognised at the international European Risk Management Awards in 2012, where IPB received a ‘highly commended’ award and she led the submission to Chambers Ireland for the overall winner of the Local Authority award for a bespoke safety management system.
Robert Moore joined IPB in 2014 as a Risk Advisor following a 17- year career in the Central Bank of Ireland, during which he gained extensive experience in risk management, governance, internal control and compliance. Robert is assigned to the Client Enterprise Risk Management services team and his main focus is on the promotion of good governance through the practice of managing risks that could prevent the delivery of corporate objectives.
Stephen Geary is a Chartered Safety and Health Practitioner and Civil Engineer who joined IPB in 2016 as a Risk Advisor with over 24 years’ experience in both the public and private sector working with various organisations preparing and implementing safety management systems, safety statements, health and safety plans, carrying out safety training and site safety audits and inspections.
Ivor Heavey joined IPB in early 2016 as a Risk Advisor following a fifteen-year career in engineering/environmental, health and safety consultancy. Ivor is both a Chartered Engineer (C.Eng.) and Health and Safety Practitioner (CMIOSH). He has a Masters Degree in Engineering and a Bachelor of Science in Environmental, Health and Safety Management. Ivor has worked across a broad spectrum of the industry including civil engineering (project design, planning and supervision) and specialised in accident investigation, the preparation of litigation reports and presenting expert witness testimony in the District, Circuit and High Courts. Ivor has conducted many environmental, health and safety system management audits for various clients throughout Ireland and the United Kingdom and is focused on process improvement and risk management to create safe, more efficient work places with an emphasis on business continuity and good governance within organisations. Ivor is a competent Environmental,
Health and Safety (EHS) trainer and has delivered many courses for clients in the area of risk management, Driver Certificate of Professional Competency (CPC), machinery training, manual handling and chemical safety over the past number of years.
Laura Smith is a Risk Advisor on the Client Enterprise Risk Management services team in IPB Insurance. She has a B.Sc. in Environmental Health (1998), is a Chartered Fellow of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH), and has over 16 years’ experience of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) and Enterprise Risk Management in both the public and private sectors.
Prior to joining IPB in October 2018, Laura was responsible for managing EHS risks in Tallaght University Hospital for 14 years. She also worked with the Irish Health Services Accreditation Board (now HIQA) and later with UDG Healthcare plc as their Group Enterprise Risk and Compliance Manager.
Laura has a research Masters in Health and Safety (2000), a green belt in Six Sigma (2003) and a postgraduate Diploma in Leadership and Quality in Healthcare with the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland (2014). In 2017, Laura became a Technical Specialist member of the Institute of Risk Management.
