The annual Excellence in Local Government Awards, hosted by Chambers Ireland, took place last night at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Santry. The event brought together representatives from local authorities across the country to recognise outstanding achievements in public service, innovation, and community development.

This long-standing awards programme highlights the vital role local authorities play in shaping vibrant, sustainable communities. Through 16 award categories, the ceremony showcased a broad range of projects and initiatives spanning climate action, housing, economic development, community wellbeing, and more. Each entry reflected the dedication, creativity, and collaborative spirit that define local government in Ireland.

This year’s winner, Fingal County Council, received the award for its impressive project, “Meakstown Community Centre and Bloom Community Garden.” The development delivers a much-needed community hub and green space, providing residents with essential amenities and a place to connect, grow, and engage. The project stood out for its innovative approach and strong alignment with sustainable community development.

The evening also saw South Dublin County Council named Local Authority of the Year, recognising their exceptional achievements across multiple areas of service delivery and their ongoing commitment to excellence.
