IPB Insurance has strengthened its position among the world’s leading mutual insurers, rising three places to 416th in the prestigious ICMIF ‘Global 500’ 2026* ranking of the world’s largest mutual and cooperative insurers.

Published annually by the International Cooperative and Mutual Insurance Federation (ICMIF), the Global 500 ranks mutual and cooperative insurers worldwide based on premium income. This year’s report highlights the continued strength of the global mutual and cooperative insurance sector, which collectively generated more than USD 1.55 trillion in premium income during 2024.

As Ireland’s only indigenous mutual non-life insurer, IPB’s improved ranking reflects the organisation’s continued growth and commitment to serving its Members for the long term. The mutual model enables IPB to focus on sustainable value creation, with surplus retained and reinvested for the benefit of Members rather than external shareholders.

The recognition comes during a landmark year for mutuality at IPB. In June, IPB welcomed mutual insurance leaders from across Europe to Dublin as host of the AMICE Biennial Congress 2026, the flagship gathering of the European mutual and cooperative insurance sector. The event showcased Ireland’s strong mutual heritage and provided a platform for discussing the future of mutual and cooperative insurance across Europe.

IPB is also a proud member of ICMIF, the global federation representing mutual and cooperative insurers. ICMIF brings together leading mutual insurers from around the world to share best practice, innovation and market intelligence, helping to strengthen and grow the mutual sector globally. A record 81 ICMIF member organisations are included in this year’s Global 500 ranking.
