IPB Insurance:
100 years working
to make a difference
IPB Insurance was established in 1926 as Ireland’s first mutual insurance company for public bodies. Its origins date to a defining moment in the early years of the Irish Free State, when the General Council of County Councils resolved on 9 December 1925 that public bodies should take responsibility for arranging their own insurance.
At the heart of this decision was the belief that “As a nation, Ireland can and should support its own interests.” This founding principle—rooted in the self-sufficient vision of Ireland’s first post-independence parliamentarians—continues to guide IPB today.
From these beginnings, IPB has grown into a proudly wholly Irish-owned mutual insurer and the leading provider of insurance solutions to Ireland’s public sector. We continue to support local authorities, national government bodies, healthcare institutions, and educational establishments nationwide.
