A native of Dublin, John has held senior leadership positions in insurance companies in Ireland and in the USA. He is a fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute, a graduate of Trinity College Dublin and Dublin City University, where he completed his MBA.
John began his career in the insurance industry in 1976 at Sun Alliance before his appointment in 1996 to the position of Chief Executive Officer at St. Paul Ireland (Now Travelers). In 2000, John moved to the United States to take up the position of President of Financial and Professional Services at St. Paul Travelers at their global head office in St. Paul, Minnesota.
Following a successful tenure with St. Paul Travellers, John was appointed Executive Vice President at ERIE Insurance Group, joining the company in 2007. In 2018 John joined Berkley Mid-Atlantic Group as its President and most recently as Chairman before he stepped down from his role to take up his new position.
Enda is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, a Fellow of the Institute of Bankers, a member of the Institute of Directors in Ireland and a member of the Insurance Institute of Ireland with a Diploma in Information Systems awarded by Trinity College Dublin. He has held a number of Senior Executive and Board level positions over the past 20 years in leading financial services organisations.
Conor Mahon is Director of Operations at IPB Insurance. He is responsible for managing operations and the Claims department to support the delivery of premium service to our Members and customers. He is also responsible for Marketing and Communications and for driving the development of IPB’s strategy to ensure continued, and long term, contribution of the Mutual to our Members and customers.
Prior to this, Conor was Head of Strategy and Planning in IPB Insurance. Before joining IPB Insurance Conor was a business consultant with Accenture for many years and has experience in defining and implementing initiatives to drive improved business outcomes for a range of organisations both in Ireland and internationally.
Conor holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from University College Dublin (UCD) and a Masters in Finance from the Michael Smurfit Graduate School of Business at UCD.
Evelyn Savage is Company Secretary Director of Legal & Sustainability at IPB Insurance. Evelyn is a qualified solicitor and has worked in the insurance industry for over 15 years.
Prior to joining IPB, Evelyn worked as Company Secretary and Head of Legal in an international insurance company and was also leading the implementation of ESG within that organisation. During her career to date, Evelyn has worked in a broad range of roles, including head of legal, company secretary, insurance advisory and litigation solicitor and a general practice solicitor.
Evelyn holds a Bachelor of Arts in Applied Psychology (Hons) from University College Cork and qualified as a Solicitor through the Law Society of Ireland.
Ger Mulvaney is Director of Risk, Compliance & Acting Company Secretary at IPB Insurance and has over 18 years’ experience in the Insurance Industry. Ger joined IPB Insurance in June 2014 assuming the role of Head of Risk in May 2016 and subsequently Head of Risk and Compliance in March 2018Prior to joining IPB he worked in the Central Bank of Ireland as an Insurance Supervision Manager overseeing the risk- based supervision of a number of large international insurance companies. Ger also worked in PwC for a number of years where he qualified as a Chartered Accountant and gained significant experience in the audit of insurance and other financial services companies.
As Director of Risk and Compliance, Ger’s primary responsibility is to the Board as well as the Risk and Audit Committees and he has distinct and independent accountability for the Risk Management and Compliance functions. Risk management is concerned with the identification, measurement, management, reporting and monitoring of material current and emerging risks. Risk Management seeks to protect the company’s operations and strong capital base by promoting a sound culture of risk awareness as well as disciplined and informed risk taking aligned to the company’s risk appetite and strategy. The Compliance Function seeks to ensure adherence to the applicable laws, regulations and internal policies. This includes providing direction, support, challenge and advice to assist management to manage and monitor compliance risk.
Frank Kavanagh is Director of Underwriting at IPB Insurance. He is responsible for leading the strategic, tactical and day to day operations of the Underwriting function. He is also responsible for the reinsurance purchase function including the development and implementation of the firms reinsurance programme.
Frank has over 20 years’ experience in the Irish, UK and wider European insurance markets. Before joining IPB Insurance Frank was Head of Specialty Commercial for Europe at Hiscox. There he held several senior underwriting and leadership positions over a period of 13 years. Frank has a strong track record in delivering underwriting profitability across a wide range of product lines and in developing innovative products to meet the needs of target customer groups.
Frank served as the President of the Insurance Institute of Dublin between 2011 and 2012. He holds the CIP designation from the Insurance Institute of Ireland and a Bachelor of Business Studies degree from the University of Limerick.
Graham Orr is Director of Member & Client Relations at IPB Insurance. Graham has responsibility and oversight of the day to day operations in the areas of Member & Client Relations, Client Enterprise Risk Management and New Business Development. He is responsible for the strategic and operational leadership, development, management and delivery of insurance and risk management services to all our Members and clients.
Prior to this, Graham was Commercial Underwriting Manager in IPB Insurance. Before joining IPB Insurance Graham held a number of key underwriting roles at RSA Insurance and has over 19 years’ experience in the insurance sector.
Graham holds the designation ‘ACII’ (Chartered Insurer) from the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) and a Masters in Business from the Michael Smurfit Graduate School of Business at UCD.
Michael Whelehan is the Head of Claims at IPB Insurance. He is responsible for all elements of the claims function from managing external service providers across disciplines such as legal, property and consultancy services to coordinating our large in-house team of experienced claims professionals who handle all claim types from motor, accidental damage, personal accident etc. to complex liability claims, in order to deliver an exceptional service to our stakeholders.
Prior to his appointment as Head of Claims in November 2014, Michael was Head of Claims Operations in FBD Insurance. Previous experience includes Head of Operations and COO within the Friends First and IFG Plc financial services groups respectively. Michael is a Business Graduate with a number of subsequent qualifications obtained in Banking, Financial Services, General Insurance, a Certified Insurance Practitioner and Licentiate of the Association of Compliance Officers in Ireland
Máiréad is responsible for leading the people agenda in IPB, including Talent Management and Development, Diversity and Inclusion and HR Operations aligning people strategies to business performance and results. During her time at the company, IPB has achieved and retained its designation as a Great Place to Work.
Before taking up her current role, Máiréad developed the Corporate Social Engagement Strategy for IPB. She cultivated and managed relationships with IPB’s Members, the Irish Government and Charities to build strategic partnerships. She oversaw the investment by IPB of €1m in a tripartite matched funding partnership with the Irish Government and Local Authorities, creating a €3 million grant programme for communities participating in The Gathering diaspora initiative in 2013.
Máiréad commenced her career in the banking sector and has over 20 years of experience in the Financial Services sector. Prior to joining IPB, Mairead worked for blue-chip and start-up organisations and has held HR roles in AIB, Postbank and Elan Pharmaceuticals.
She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Financial Services and a Post Graduate Diploma in HRM.
Colm Bryson joined IPB in May 2012 as Head of Finance. Prior to joining IPB, Colm held positions as Finance Integration Manager at MetLife, Group Financial Controller at Postbank Ireland, AVP Finance at Merrill Lynch and Client Services Manager at AIB International Financial Services.
Colm is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (FCCA), holds a Management Diploma in Insurance from the Insurance Institute of Ireland, a Bachelor of Business & Legal Studies from UCD and a Professional Diploma in Strategy, Innovation and Change from UCD Michael Smurfit Business School. He is a member of the Finance, Risk and Audit Committee of the Children’s Rights Alliance and Assistant Honorary Treasurer of the Belvedere College Past Pupils Union.
Lorraine has in excess of 40 years’ experience at IPB Insurance currently holding the role of Reinsurance Manager since her appointment in 2014. She is responsible for the development and execution of the Reinsurance Strategy for IPB Insurance. Prior to her current role she held the position of Liability Manager and as a specialist in the area of contract wordings and third-party insurance covers was responsible for the development of the contractor’s insurance advisory service in IPB. Lorraine holds the designation ‘ACII’ (Chartered Insurer) from the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII).
Conor McCourt is the Head of IT and Information Security Officer at IPB Insurance. Conor joined IPB in February 2011. He is responsible for the oversight and management of the IT Function which manages the IT systems, operations and infrastructure for the organisation. As Information Security Officer, Conor is responsible for ensuring best practice Cyber controls, procedures and Cyber awareness training is in place to ensure that the organisation data assets are secure.
Conor has over 25 years of IT experience and Leadership experience. Before joining IPB Conor was the Head of IT for Willis Risk Services Ireland where he held many technical and leadership positions over 13 years. Conor holds a Masters Degree in the Management of Operations from Dublin City University and is a Certified Information System Security Professional (CISSP) and member of good standing of the global Information Security body, ISC2.
Frank Cunneen is Head of Investments at IPB Insurance. He heads a team of three investment professionals and is responsible for all aspects of managing the investment assets of IPB. Prior to his appointment as Head of Investments in May 2018, Frank was Portfolio Manager within the investment team at IPB Insurance for the previous 10 years. All investment decisions are made in house and are governed by investment parameters as set by the Board of Directors through the approved Investment Policy.
Prior to joining IPB Insurance, Frank held roles of equity trader and credit analyst at Davy and Bank of Ireland respectively. Frank holds a Bachelor of Commerce from University College Dublin (UCD) and a Masters in Business Studies from the Michael Smurfit School of Business.
Philomena is Head of Legal for IPB Insurance. A practising solicitor with 12 years post-qualification experience, Philomena’s journey with IPB Insurance began in 2015, joining the Legal team initially as Legal Counsel, before being promoted to Legal Manager in 2017. Philomena was appointed to the role of Head of Legal in 2022, and has overall strategic, tactical, and operational accountability for the company’s Legal Function with responsibility for managing and directing the company’s commercial legal activities, the management of legal risks and the provision of legal guidance to the business.
Prior to IPB, Philomena worked in general practice in a boutique Dublin Law Firm. Philomena holds a Bachelor of Arts in Legal & Business Studies from Waterford Institute of Technology; a Degree of LL.B. and Masters in Law (LL.M.) from University College Cork; the designation of the Licentiate of Compliance Institute and a Management Diploma in Insurance form the Insurance Institute of Ireland.
Liam is Head of Compliance for the company. He joined IPB in 2018 and has over 30 years’ experience in the financial services industry.
He has a B. Comm from UCD and qualified as a Chartered Accountant while working in Deloitte. He also holds the designation of the Licentiate of Compliance Institute and is a Certified Data Protection Officer.
Prior to joining IPB, Liam held a number of senior Compliance, Risk and Finance roles during 25 years in Aviva Ireland.
He also worked in the civil service, as Head of Compliance in the Department of Finance and was senior compliance manager in the Irish branch of the UK’s Nationwide Building Society.
As the Head of Marketing and Communications for IPB Insurance, Tom leads the company’s marketing, research, advertising and communications. He led the recent rebranding of IPB Insurance and played a major role in the development of IPB’s new corporate identity and communications collateral. In leading the marketing and communications team, Tom’s focus is always on listening to the needs of all our stakeholders and responding to those needs as innovatively and creatively as possible.
Tom has been working in marketing, communications and corporate affairs since 1996. He has worked with leading financial services and corporate businesses in Ireland and internationally including companies such as KBC Bank, AIB Bank, IFG Group, DNG and Insomnia among many others. He was runner up for ‘Best Corporate Communications Campaign’ at the PRCA Excellence in Communications Awards in 2011.
Laura has been with IPB Insurance since 2018 and previously held the role of Senior Risk Advisor until she was appointed Head of Sustainability in September 2022. Laura has a B.Sc. in Environmental Health, is a Chartered Fellow of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) and has 20+ years’ experience of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) and Enterprise Risk Management in both the public and private sectors. Laura previously worked with Tallaght University Hospital, the Irish Health Services Accreditation Board (now HIQA) and UDG Healthcare plc.
Laura has a research Masters in Health and Safety and recently achieved a Professional Certificate in Governance with the IPA in 2021 and an Advanced Diploma in Planning and Environmental Law with the Kings Inns in 2022.
Laura is responsible for facilitating the company’s sustainability strategy and working to support our Members, as public bodies, who have pivotal role in the decarbonisation transition. Laura also supports IPB on Environmental, Governance and Social (ESG) related projects as well as being an active member of the IPB Diversity and Inclusion Committee.
Adrian Leonard is the Head of Technical Underwriting and Pricing in IPB Insurance. Adrian has worked in non-life insurance for the last 16 years in a variety of different roles. His previous roles include a Property and Liability loss adjuster with Cunningham Lindsay and as a Commercial Underwriter in Allianz. Having joined IPB insurance 10 years ago, Adrian oversees pricing, contract documentation, product development and underwriting governance and regulatory controls. Adrian graduated from the University of Limerick with a Bachelor Of Science degree in Applied Physics and has an Advanced Diploma in Insurance (ACII).
